Fire Family Conflagration #116

Title: Devil

Fire Family Conflagration Prompt #116 – devil

Summary: Buck gets a pet turtle. He doesn’t like Eddie.

Eddie stared through the glass of the tank at the turtle.

“What possessed you to get a turtle?”

Eddie glanced up at Buck who was beaming down at the little turtle.

“I have a friend who helps with an animal rescue. He told me about Derek and that his injury made it too risky to return him back to where he was found.”

Eddie smiled a little at that. Buck was a good person and surely this friend knew that Buck wouldn’t be able to resist helping.

Eddie walked around Buck’s kitchen in his socks, listening to Buck and Chris argue over the video game they were playing.

He was working on putting up the last of the dishes when he felt a sharp pain on his foot and yelped. Buck and Chris paused what they were doing as Eddie glanced down.

Derek the turtle was sitting beside his foot and looked like he was going back for another bite. Eddie quickly pulled his foot away.

“I thought Derek was staying in the living room with you two!”

He ignored the giggling as Buck came in to grab Derek and turned to finish what he was doing.

**************************

Eddie carried the beers into the living room as Buck finished up upstairs. Chris was with Denny, Hen, and Karen so the two friends had decided to have a movie night for just the two of them.

He paused in front of Buck’s new couch and narrowed his eyes.

“I don’t care what Buck and Chris think. You’re the actual devil.”

Derek looked up innocently from his place in Eddie’s spot on the couch.

Eddie made a point of stealing Buck’s seat. If he wanted that devil turtle out, then he could be the one to deal with it.

He had barely been sitting down for a minute, when he felt a small weight on his leg. He froze before glancing down and meeting the evil stare of that damn turtle.

He could still hear Buck upstairs so decided to handle the situation and move the demon back to Buck’s seat.

He had barely grabbed it when Devil Derek had stretched out his little neck in an attempt to take a bite out of his hand.

He quickly dropped the devil back in Luke’s seat just as Buck made an appearance. His friend was clearly hiding a smile.

“You’re not funny.”

Buck didn’t hide his smile that time. “You’re letting a turtle get the better of you. You’re the one who is funny.”

**************************

Every time Eddie showed up to Buck’s, the devil turtle seemed to seek him out.

He had taken to guarding his fingers closely as that seemed to be Derek’s favorite snack.

The only thing that made it better was the fact that Chris seemed to find the entire thing too funny for words. Hearing Chris laugh (even at his expense) was always going to be worth more than anything else to him.

He would even tolerate the devil turtle.
